Canada's first lady of song, singer-actress Gisele MacKenzie, was a big star on early television in "Your Hit Parade" (1950-58 NBC, 1958-59 CBS). Her years on the show were 1953-57. Gisele and the show regulars would sing the 7 most popular songs of the week. Among the regulars were Snooky Lanson, Dorothy Collins, and Russell Arms. She toured with Jack Benny in 1952-53, who recommended her for "Your Hit Parade."
Gisele had her own musical variety program, "The Gisele MacKenzie Show" (1957-58 NBC). She was a regular on "The Sid Caesar Show" (1963-64 ABC).
She had her own show "Meet Gisele" on the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., before moving to the United States.
"She sang, played the violin, worked in the sketches - she did everything," Sid Caesar said. "She was a wonderfully, wonderfully talented woman. She was a great singer and a great musician and had a great sense of humor."
Gisele MacKenzie was born, January 10, 1927, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She passed on, September 5, 2003, at Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank, California. She had colon cancer. Gisele MacKenzie was 76 years old.
