Carter threw four interceptions in the Arizona game. The Cowboys lose in overtime when Arizona kicks a field goal. As of October 21, Quincy Carter is out and Chad Hutchinson is in as the starting quarterback. Hutchinson has not played in the NFL. His last game was as a sophomore at Stanford. He played pro baseball for 4 years, then returned to football in 2001.

Sunday Oct. 27
Seattle 17 Dallas 14

Emmitt Smith becomes the NFL's career rushing leader bypassing the late great Walter Payton of the Chicago Bears. Emmitt broke Payton's mark of 16,726 yards. It happened on an 11 yard run with 9:10 left in the game. In the Dallas playbook it's called the "15-Lead". Emmitt Smith had 109 yards against Seattle. His career rushing total is now 16,743 yards and has 150 touchdowns on the ground. New quarterback Chad Hutchinson completed 12 of 24 passes for 145 yards.

Emmitt rushed only 30 yards on 8 carries. This marks the 3rd straight year Dallas has had double digit losses which is a first in team history. Smith tied his season low for carries and had his 2nd lowest yardage total of the season. He needs 38 yards to get his record extending 12th straight 1,000 yard season.

Sunday Dec. 29
Dallas 14 Washington 20
The Cowboys ended 5-11 in each of Dave Campo's 3 years as coach. It is the first time in franchise history Dallas has had 3 straight seasons with at least 10 losses. Jerry Jones says it was "the most disappointing year". Emmitt Smith had a season low 13 yards on 18 carries in this game. He completed the 2002 season with 975 yards, which meant he fell short of 1,000 yards for the 1st time since his rookie year of 1990. Emmitt says he still wants to play with the Dallas Cowboys or elsewhere. Jerry Jones has indicated Smith won't be a Cowboy next year unless he takes a big pay cut. That's not very neighborly, JERRY, after everything Emmitt Smith has done for the team.

NOTE: Dallas in 2002 has no appearances on Monday Night Football for the first time since 1990.

Sun., Dec. 10

FINALLY, Dallas appears to be playing with some kind of emotion. Troy left the game in the 1st quarter with another concussion and was replaced by Anthony Wright. This was a very important day for one of our major contributors. Emmitt along with Barry Sanders, are the only 2 runningbacks ever that have 10 consecutive 1,000 rushing yard seasons. Also, Emmitt, Barry Sanders and Walter Payton are the only 3 runningbacks to reach the 15,000 yard mark in their career. In this game, Emmitt had 150 yards against Washington's #2 defense.

Sun., Dec. 17
New York Giants 17, Dallas 13
It was a shame to lose this game. Dallas QB Anthony Wright made his first NFL start.

Emmitt scored in the 1st quarter from the 1.

In the 2nd quarter, Dallas kicker Tim Seder hit 2 field goals from 47 and 44 yards out. So Dallas controlled the ball game 13-0, going into the half.

In the 3rd quarter, Jason Tucker fumbled the kickoff, which resulted in the Giants missing a field goal attempt. Later, Giants QB Kerry Collins completed a 33 yard touchdown pass to WR Amani Toomer.
INTERESTING NOTE: At 9:12 in the 3rd quarter, Cowboys #54 Darren Hambrick is called for unnecessary roughness. Dave Campo was on the sideline going crazy because he wanted Hambrick to leave the field and come and stand right beside him but Hambrick was refusing to come out of the game. Joe Bowden was sent in to get Hambrick out of the game, and finally on the 2nd try Hambrick went to the sideline. When Hambrick did go to the sideline, Dallas defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer kept him away from Campo.

In the 4th quarter, the game turned sour for the Cowboys. Dallas QB Anthony Wright threw an interception, which the Giants Tiki Barber turned into a touchdown on the next play. Then, Giants kicker Brad Daluiso hit a field goal from 45 yards. The Cowboys could have been the spoiler for the Giants, but the Giants won 17-13, and clinched the NFC East title and a 1st round bye in the playoffs.

Mon., Dec. 25

Cowboys crash in this shutout against the Titans that ends a really dismal season.
